making change happen

Hi Stephen

The declaration of a climate emergency is a huge step forward. How can we maintain this momentum? To inspire you, we look at some of the ways the Semble community are driving change.

This month the applications for the Made Local Fund are now open, get a sneak peek into our new Backyard Nature campaign, we’re empowering young people through an amazing Crowdfunder campaign and the highlights from Outdoor Classroom Day are in.

Funding: Made Local Fund

We have big funding news: we’ve teamed up again with Carling on their Made Local Fund, and there's thousands of pounds worth of support available.

Community projects, local groups and charities of all shapes and sizes are eligible, just tell us how your project benefits the wider community. Applications are now open. The deadline for this round of funding is 14th July.

First Outdoor Classroom Day of 2019 a huge success

On 23 May, 100,000s of children across the UK got outdoors for Outdoor Classroom Day. From collecting natural materials to make art, to using chalk to practice addition and numbers, children had so much fun outdoors! Find out more and get involved in the next one.

Semble community exclusive

We’re so excited to share our new campaign with you! Backyard Nature will empower all children and communities to act as nature guardians for their ‘patch’ - no matter how small. We haven’t quite launched yet, but we wanted you to be the first to find out. Here is a sneak preview!

A call to action: Climate Action Week

People everywhere have realised that we cannot sit by and wait for our leaders so how can we maintain momentum around climate action? London Climate Action Week next month creates a focal point, and we want to inspire all communities across the UK to take action. Here are some inspirational ways the Semble community are driving change.

Empowering young people with self-confidence

Too many young people are held back from living the life they want by a lack of self-belief. That’s not good enough! Confidence Club coaches young people, building self-confidence and human connection through empowering experiences. Their Crowdfunder is now live and they need your support.

Blog: ‘I am a firm climate change believer; I wish I was doing more about it.’

What holds us back from doing more about climate change even when we believe it’s so important? This moving blog from Andrew, our Head of Ops, tries to understand some of the psychological and logistical obstacles we wrestle with and how we might overcome them.
We've cherry-picked a couple of community events listed on Semble. You can check out the full event listings and add your own events here.
Activate Festival - London, 10th July.
We'll be at Activate Festival and we have some free tickets for Semblers! Our workshop ‘How do you share your story to get others to support you?’ is just one of the day's great sessions. Get in touch if you’d like a free ticket (limited spots available).
The Hill End ffennell festival - Oxford, 15th June.
A Celebrating the Hill End Centre, now a charitable trust. Family outdoor activities, archery, birds of prey, bushcraft, arts, local choirs and music.
We hope you’ve been inspired by this newsletter. Please let us know what actions and events you have planned around tackling climate change for the month of July and we’ll help spread the word on our Semble networks. Get in touch.
